There has been a long-standing myth that chocolate, a treatment that many of us can't live without, can cause acne breakouts. This was devastating news for a lot of self proclaimed "chocoholics" who thought they needed to avoid totally delicious indulgence to prevent acne.
However, the thought that avoid chocolate is a necessary part of a campaign of prevention of acne had many skeptics and debunkers along the way. For the most part has been proven that the chocolate itself does not "cause" acne. The current belief is that those who eat a lot of chocolate and try an escape did not break because of chocolate. They leave because of all the sugar they took in.
Another thought is that chocolate myth began because those who were consuming large quantities of chocolate had other things going on that caused his skin to leave. People generally consume a lot of chocolate when they are under stress, for example. It is possible that the underlying cause is not really the ingredients in chocolate, but the stress that he fired in this case.
Although it is a bit of a cliche, chocolate also happens to be a food that is often desired by women during PMS, or by any person in General when their hormones are out of whack. Our skin erupts in acne lesions when there's a lot of androgenic activity because it promotes excessive production of sebum. When our skin produces too much sebum, this causes bacteria, dirt and debris to collect and clog the pores.
Is this chain of events that lead to chronic acne. That is why there are so many different types of treatments available for this skin condition. It has many causes, although the main underlying cause are the hormones themselves. Eat a healthy balanced diet that is low in sugar and fat and rich in antioxidants and whole foods like fruits and vegetables is the first step in prevention of acne.
Topical products such as cleaning products, lotions, creams and other treatments are just getting your halfway there. To really avoid acne breakouts, you should use a holistic approach, diet and lifestyle. This can include the scale back in chocolate if you get in too decadent delight that also happens to be a hormone disruptor in large quantities.
