Benzoyl peroxide, no gain, pure pain: Analyze the use of benzoyl peroxide for treating Acne

The use of benzoyl peroxide for treating acne in my opinion should be a criminal offence. Incredibly we see that benzoyl peroxide is included in the list of essential medicines to health organizations in the world!

Although the above statement is true, that doesn't tell you is that this drug although touted as the miracle cure for acne, in fact is absolutely useless. Having used this drug me in previous years of my own acne treatment and have spoken with hundreds of other patients that I would have no reservations in saying that this drug actually will cause physical and psychological damage with prolonged use.

Let me talk a bit about my own experience and that of others so that you can judge for yourself because this drug is so badly and is still prevalent in almost every pharmacy in the world.

I started suffering from mild acne at the age of 16, which began on my face, but very slowly spread around me. I tried a number of remedies including scrubs, cleansers, changing my diet and countless cups of water. It seemed to me that my acne just doesn't go away.

Finally, I came across a pharmacist who recommended cream 1% benzoyl peroxide so thought why not? I was very excited to start using the program called for treatment of benzoyl peroxide that promised results in 3 months or less.

What I soon realized was that there was a price to pay for the reduction of inflammation. Yes the size of the zit had fallen considerably, but what he had done was really trap dirt and bacteria deep within the skin, reducing the size of the spine.

All my acne has followed the same pattern, would appear and then the benzoyl peroxide would decrease them but then I would have still a painful nodule and visible under my skin. People suffering with acne knows the temptation of wanting to choose a location, and having waited weeks to lumps disappear decided to grab some to see if I could release the dirt.

This was a serious error bad as wouldn't break the spine and instead I was elevator with cuts and scars all over my face. So I decided that I would not pick up the spots more and wait patiently for the three months to the acne disappear by itself.

I used religiously benzoyl peroxide for 3 months and still kept getting points. He basically had done nothing to reduce my acne. The worst was that the constant shelling the drug effect my sore and sensitive skin. Lumps under my skin felt like tiny golf balls that were painful to the touch.

I had put so much hope on benzoyl peroxide that I was not prepared to give up without a fight. I went out and bought benzoyl peroxide 5%, then moved to the maximum strength cream 10%.

Once again I had the same results miserable but this time that the side effects were 10 times worse. I continued using the cream 10% benzoyl peroxide for another six months before I realized that I had lost not only my money but a long period of my life waiting for this drug to cure my acne.

I felt confused, angry and soon fell into depression, knowing that I didn't bring my acne under control. My face was bright red as a victim of Burns and my acne was worse than I had started.

I immediately stopped using this garbage and began searching for cures elsewhere. After countless hours reading and searching I decided to go to my doctor and ask him to refer a dermatologist. He refused and offered me antibiotics instead.

Having done my research I knew that no amount of topical antibiotics anti microbial agents like benzoyl peroxide or could never handle my acne. The answer was pretty simple and the best way to describe it is what I call the equation of Acne: bacteria + excess oil = Acne

No amount of cleansing ritual or use of medicinal products above never completely will get rid of all surface bacteria, so therefore the answer must be in part of the excess oil from the equation.

I had to pay for a private consultation with a dermatologist who soon prescribed me money. This is an oral drug that put quite simple cures acne for life. The drug goes to work directly on the oil producing sebaceous glands and immediately reduces the amount of oil on the surface of the skin.

The result of this reduction in tallow oil means that no amount of bacteria in my face, the back or the chest always caused me acne again.

So if the benzoyl peroxide is as useless because it is marketed under many different brands? The answer is simple; the skin care industry and the pharmaceutical industry makes billions annually by pedalling these poisons. If no one bought these products, as they would make money?

Profits at the expense of acne sufferers is a despicable practice, but will never cease until we educate and seek appropriate treatment.
